Conditions We Treat
Echo PMR, PLLC is a premier physical medicine and rehabilitation practice led by Dr. Umar Mahmood, serving patients across five Texas locations — Corpus Christi, Sugar Land, Laredo, Victoria, and McAllen. Below you will find detailed information about the musculoskeletal, neurological, and pain conditions we treat. Each condition is organized by category to help you quickly find the information most relevant to your symptoms. If you're experiencing any of these conditions, our team is here to help you find lasting relief.
Spine & Back Pain
The most common source of pain we treat. Whether your symptoms started after an accident, developed gradually, or have persisted through prior treatment, we identify the exact pain source before recommending any intervention.
Radiculopathy (Pinched Nerve)
Nerve root compression in the neck or lower back causing shooting pain, numbness, or weakness into the arm or leg. Often caused by a herniated disc or bone spur.
Herniated or Bulging Disc
When a spinal disc pushes outward and irritates nearby nerves, causing localized or radiating pain. Can develop after trauma or from gradual wear.
Spinal Stenosis
Narrowing of the spinal canal that compresses nerves, causing leg heaviness, cramping, and pain with walking — typically relieved by sitting or leaning forward.
Facet Joint Syndrome
Arthritis or inflammation of the small joints along the back of the spine, causing deep aching pain that worsens with twisting, bending back, or prolonged standing.
Sacroiliac (SI) Joint Dysfunction
A frequently overlooked cause of low back and buttock pain. The SI joint connects the spine to the pelvis and can become painful from injury, pregnancy, or degeneration.
Vertebral Compression Fractures
Partial collapse of a vertebra — most often from osteoporosis or trauma — causing sudden, severe back pain that can worsen without treatment.
Failed Back Surgery Syndrome
Persistent pain that continues or develops after spine surgery. Echo PMR offers advanced options including spinal cord stimulation and targeted nerve procedures.
Post-Accident & Traumatic Injury
Echo PMR is experienced in evaluating and documenting injuries from motor vehicle accidents, workplace incidents, falls, and other trauma. We accept Letters of Protection (LOP) for qualifying personal injury cases.
Whiplash & Cervical Spine Injury
Rapid forceful neck movement during a crash strains muscles, ligaments, and joints — and can compress nerve roots. Symptoms often develop hours to days after the accident.
Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Injuries
Crashes can injure the entire spine, peripheral joints, and nervous system. We provide comprehensive evaluation, imaging review, EMG testing, and thorough injury documentation.
Slip, Trip & Fall Injuries
Falls can cause fractures, joint injuries, spine trauma, and nerve damage. We evaluate the full scope of injury and coordinate care from diagnosis through recovery.
Post-Traumatic Headaches & Concussion
Persistent headaches after a head injury are common and undertreated. We offer interventional options including nerve blocks and Botox® for post-traumatic migraine.
Workplace Injuries
On-the-job injuries from lifting, repetitive strain, falls, or crush trauma. Echo PMR provides functional assessments, injury documentation, and workers' compensation care.
Nerve & Neuropathic Pain
Nerve pain is often burning, sharp, or electric in character — and difficult to treat without identifying the exact mechanism and source. Echo PMR uses electrodiagnostic testing and targeted nerve procedures to address neuropathic conditions precisely.
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)
A debilitating chronic pain condition marked by burning pain, temperature changes, and extreme sensitivity in a limb — often following injury or surgery. One of the strongest indications for spinal cord stimulation.
Peripheral Neuropathy
Sharp, shooting pain in the back of the head from irritated occipital nerves — often following whiplash or cervical arthritis. Treated with targeted nerve blocks.
Trigeminal Neuralgia
Severe electric shock-like facial pain triggered by everyday activities. One of the most painful conditions known — managed with nerve block procedures and medication.
Post-Herpetic Neuralgia (Shingles Pain)
Persistent nerve pain after a shingles outbreak. The virus damages affected nerves, causing burning or stabbing pain that can last months to years without treatment.
Headache & Facial Pain
When oral medications aren't enough, Echo PMR offers interventional headache treatments — from Botox® for chronic migraine to targeted nerve blocks — that go beyond what a primary care physician can provide.
Chronic Migraine
15 or more headache days per month, at least 8 of which are migraines. FDA-approved Botox® therapy and nerve blocks provide proven relief for patients who haven't responded to oral preventives.
Cervicogenic Headaches
Headaches caused by pain originating in the neck — common after whiplash, cervical arthritis, or disc injury. Treated with cervical nerve blocks and physical therapy.
Tension-Type Headaches
Chronic tension headaches that have not responded to over-the-counter treatments or oral medications can often be relieved with trigger point injections and nerve blocks.
Cluster Headaches
Intense, one-sided headaches occurring in cyclical patterns. Among the most painful headache disorders, they respond to interventional nerve block procedures.
Not Sure Where to Start?
Many patients come to us without a clear diagnosis — just pain that has persisted and hasn't improved. That's exactly what we're here for. Our physicians perform comprehensive evaluations to find the source of your pain and build a plan around it.
