Services for Serious Traumatic Accidents, Personal Injury & Pain Management
Echo PMR offers physician-led evaluation, pain management, and rehabilitation for patients recovering from serious traumatic accidents and personal injury. Every service below is delivered or directly supervised by Dr. Mahmood and integrated with our partner therapy and behavioral health teams. We do not treat routine wellness complaints — our entire focus is the injured patient.
"Trauma changes the body and the brain. Real recovery has to address both." — Umar Mahmood, DO
Comprehensive Trauma & Personal Injury Evaluation
A thorough, physician-performed assessment for patients injured in motor vehicle collisions, workplace accidents, falls, and other traumatic events. Includes detailed history, physiatric physical examination, review of prior imaging and records, and our standardized three-domain screening for physical, cognitive, and psychological impairment. You leave with a written diagnosis, a treatment roadmap, and clear next steps.
Best for: New post-accident patients; patients whose symptoms have plateaued under non-physiatric care; attorneys and case managers needing a definitive PM&R evaluation.
Traumatic Brain Injury & Concussion Care
Specialized evaluation and management for patients with suspected or confirmed traumatic brain injury, from mild concussion through moderate and severe TBI. We assess cognitive, vestibular, ocular-motor, autonomic, headache, sleep, and mood symptoms, and we build a rehabilitation plan that may include cognitive therapy, vestibular therapy, vision therapy, graded return-to-activity protocols, and targeted pharmacologic management. Persistent post-concussion symptoms are taken seriously and treated actively — not waited out.
Best for: Patients with head trauma, loss of consciousness, "I haven't been the same since the accident" symptoms, or unresolved concussion months after injury.
Interventional Spine & Pain Procedures
Minimally invasive, image-guided procedures used to diagnose and treat post-traumatic and chronic spine pain. Procedures are recommended only when conservative care has not provided adequate relief and when the underlying pain generator is well-defined.
Procedures performed and supervised by Dr. Mahmood may include:
Cervical, thoracic, and lumbar epidural steroid injections
Facet joint injections and medial branch blocks
Radiofrequency ablation for facet-mediated pain
Sacroiliac joint injections
Trigger point and peripheral joint injections
Diagnostic nerve blocks
Best for: Patients with persistent neck or back pain after a motor vehicle accident, work injury, or fall, where imaging and examination point to a specific, treatable pain source.
Post-Traumatic Pain Management
Comprehensive, physician-led pain management for patients whose pain began with — or was made significantly worse by — a serious accident. Dr. Mahmood diagnoses the actual source of post-traumatic pain (disc, facet joint, nerve root, sacroiliac joint, soft tissue, post-concussive, or mixed) and builds a layered plan that may include targeted physical therapy, bracing, judicious medication management, image-guided injections, and interventional procedures. The emphasis is on non-surgical, non-opioid pathways whenever clinically appropriate.
Best for: Whiplash, post-traumatic neck and back pain, radiculopathy/sciatica, rotator cuff injury, post-traumatic joint pain, post-concussive headache, and overlapping musculoskeletal pain from a single accident.
Coordinated Rehabilitation Management
For patients with multi-system injuries, Dr. Mahmood serves as the lead physician coordinating physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and cognitive therapy, neuropsychology, and behavioral health through our Echo Clinic and Echo Trauma and Rehabilitation partners. One physician. One plan. One point of accountability.
Best for: Catastrophic injury, polytrauma, and any patient whose recovery has been complicated by uncoordinated care.
Medical-Legal Evaluations & Reporting
Echo PMR provides clear, defensible, and clinically grounded documentation for personal injury claims, including detailed PM&R evaluations, causation analysis, impairment assessment, and reporting on maximum medical improvement. Our priority remains the patient's recovery; our reporting reflects the medicine.
Best for: Attorneys, case managers, and adjusters working with personal injury or workers' compensation patients.
